Nexus Raises $700M to Double Down on AI and India’s Digital Boom

While much of the venture world is rushing headfirst into AI, Nexus Venture Partners is choosing a more balanced path. The firm has raised a new $700 million fund and is splitting its focus between two areas it believes will define the next decade: AI-driven startups and India’s fast-growing digital economy.

For Nexus, this isn’t a shift—it’s a continuation of its identity. Since 2006, the firm has operated as a single U.S.–India investment team, backing early-stage companies from both ecosystems with the same pool of capital. That dual focus helped Nexus spot breakout companies long before they became known names, from developer tools gaining global adoption in the U.S. to digital-first consumer and fintech players reshaping daily life in India.

The firm sees AI as a historic technological shift, but also a crowded one. Rather than competing in an overheated category alone, Nexus believes India offers a complementary opportunity. The country’s talent pool, multilingual market, and rapid buildout of digital infrastructure create fertile ground for new AI applications and infrastructure companies. Portfolio companies like Zepto and Neysa illustrate how deeply AI is already embedding itself into Indian business models, from retail logistics to sovereign AI workloads.

Despite the hype cycle, Nexus is keeping its strategy disciplined. The fund size remains the same as its previous one, and the firm continues to focus on inception, seed, and Series A—writing some of the earliest checks in a startup’s life. Most of the capital came from returning limited partners, a sign of the firm’s long-term performance.

For Nexus, the message is clear: AI is transformative, but the next wave of innovation won’t come from a single place. By backing both frontier technology and India’s expanding digital landscape, the firm believes it’s positioning itself for the full spectrum of opportunity ahead.
