Bending Spoons Acquires Eventbrite for $500M, Continuing Deal Spree

Eventbrite has agreed to be acquired by Milan-based technology group Bending Spoons in a $500 million all-cash deal , a steep decline from the company’s $1.76 billion valuation at its 2018 IPO . The agreement is expected to close in the first half of 2026 and will result in Eventbrite transitioning from a public company to private ownership.

For Eventbrite, founded in 2006 and long associated with the rise of self-service event management , the acquisition comes after several years of uneven performance marked by the pandemic’s disruption of live events and increased competition from larger platforms.

The Eventbrite deal underscores Bending Spoons’ growing influence as a European acquirer of legacy digital platforms, many of which have strong brand recognition but require substantial investment to regain traction.

For Eventbrite, the shift to private ownership may offer room to refocus product development and navigate a competitive market without the pressure of quarterly reporting. The company says its core mission remains unchanged, but the resources of a larger parent may shape how it pursues that goal in its next phase.
