Ex-Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal Raises $100M to Rebuild the Internet for AI

Former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal is back with a bold new mission: to rebuild how the internet works — this time, for machines. His startup, Parallel Web Systems , has raised $100 million in Series A funding at a $740 million valuation , co-led by Kleiner Perkins and Index Ventures , with participation from Khosla Ventures and other existing investors. The new capital will help Parallel expand its search and data infrastructure and scale its customer base.

Unlike traditional search engines built for human browsing, Parallel is designed for AI agents . Its technology lets them access live web data through APIs, pulling updated, structured information directly into an AI model’s context window. The result is faster, more accurate responses — without the noise of links, clicks, or rankings. Enterprise clients are already using Parallel’s system to write software, analyze data, and assess risk , blending internal data with real-time web insights.

Beyond infrastructure, Parallel is also tackling a growing problem: the rise of paywalls and protected content that block AI systems from accessing key information. Agrawal envisions an “open market mechanism” where publishers are compensated for making their content accessible to AI, creating a more sustainable and transparent data ecosystem.

With this funding, Parallel is betting that the next era of the internet won’t be navigated by humans, but by AI systems that read, learn, and reason in real time . And it wants to be the company that powers that shift — the connective tissue between the web we built for people and the one now emerging for machines.
