Rivian Launches Mind Robotics with $115M in Funding to Advance AI and Automation

Rivian Automotive has unveiled Mind Robotics , a new spinout focused on artificial intelligence and industrial automation. The venture marks the company’s second independent offshoot in 2025, following the launch of Also , a micromobility startup developing smaller electric vehicles such as e-bikes. Together, the two initiatives signal founder and CEO RJ ScaringeDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →’s ambition to apply Rivian’s engineering expertise beyond its core electric-vehicle business.

Mind Robotics stems from internal R&D programmes exploring how Rivian’s software, sensor, and powertrain technologies could be adapted for factory and logistics automation. The new company will operate independently but maintain a strategic partnership with Rivian, which retains a minority stake. This structure allows Mind Robotics to attract external investors and move faster in developing AI-driven robotics systems for commercial use.

While still in an early phase, Mind Robotics is expected to focus initially on industrial and warehouse automation , where autonomous robotics and machine-learning software can enhance productivity and efficiency. Its work builds on Rivian’s in-house strengths in embedded software, motion control, and systems integration — capabilities originally developed for electric vehicles but now being applied to broader automation challenges.

The creation of Mind Robotics, following the launch of Also, reflects Rivian’s effort to diversify its technology portfolio and unlock new growth areas while maintaining its focus on electric mobility. Scaringe has described these ventures as part of a wider mission to rethink how technology can advance sustainability across industries, from transportation to manufacturing.
