Expedition Therapeutics Secures $165M to Develop Next-Gen COPD Therapy
Expedition Therapeutics is stepping into the global stage with a bold approach to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The U.S.-based biotech secured $165 million in Series A funding to advance its lead candidate, EXPD-101 , a next-generation oral DPP-1 inhibitor designed to reduce neutrophilic inflammation in the lungs. The therapy, currently in early clinical trials, aims to improve lung function and decrease disease exacerbations without compromising patients’ immune defenses.
The drug originated at Shanghai-based Fosun Pharma, and Expedition secured the global rights to develop and commercialize it outside of China, Hong Kong, and Macau in a licensing deal announced in August 2025. The agreement includes potential milestone payments of up to $645 million , contingent on clinical, regulatory, and commercial successes. This positions Expedition to bring a promising therapy to patients in markets that have yet to see effective new options.
