Atlassian bets on AI with $610M Browser Company acquisition

Atlassian has announced the acquisition of The Browser Company, the startup behind the Arc and Dia browsers, in a $610 million all-cash deal . The move signals the Australian software giant’s entry into the competitive browser market, with a clear bet on artificial intelligence to reshape how people work online.

Founded in 2019, The Browser Company gained attention for Arc’s sleek design and, more recently, for Dia — a browser that blends search and productivity with AI capabilities. Instead of simply being a window to the internet, Dia acts as an assistant: organizing information, moving data between tabs, and summarizing content in real time.

For Atlassian, best known for tools like Jira, Trello, and Confluence , the deal is about bringing the browser closer to the workplace. The company plans to integrate Dia into its ecosystem, creating a unified and intelligent digital workspace.

The acquisition comes at a time of growing competition. Microsoft has built Copilot into Edge, Brave offers Leo , Perplexity recently launched Comet , and Google Chrome still dominates the market with nearly 70% global share. Atlassian, however, sees an opportunity to stand out with a browser designed for teams that juggle multiple tools every day.

The deal will be funded from Atlassian’s cash reserves, which totaled around $2.5 billion last quarter. Closing is expected in the company’s second fiscal quarter, ending in December 2025, pending regulatory approval.

With this acquisition, Atlassian isn’t just buying a browser. It’s betting on a new way of working — one where the browser evolves from a passive tool into an active partner in productivity.
