Cohere Raises $500M, Hits $6.8B Valuation to Expand Enterprise AI
Canadian AI startup Cohere has raised $500 million in a new funding round, bringing its valuation to $6.8 billion . The investment was led by Radical Ventures and Inovia Capital , with participation from AMD Ventures, NVIDIA, PSP Investments, and Salesforce Ventures, marking a notable step up from last year’s $5.5 billion valuation.
Founded in 2019 by former Google researchers Aidan Gomez, Ivan Zhang, and Nick Frosst , Cohere focuses on enterprise-focused large language models , prioritizing secure integration with clients’ internal data. This specialization makes its solutions particularly appealing to regulated industries such as finance, healthcare, and government, setting it apart from competitors that focus on general-purpose AI models.
Among its offerings, Cohere highlights the platform North , which helps knowledge workers by summarizing documents and automating tasks. The company has also expanded partnerships with major firms, including Oracle, Dell, SAP, and LG, integrating its AI models into their products and services.
Alongside the funding, Cohere strengthened its leadership team with Joelle Pineau , former VP of AI Research at Meta, joining as Chief AI Officer, and Francois Chadwick , previously CFO at Uber and Shield AI, taking on the role of Chief Financial Officer.
