Heat Pump Startup Aira Secures €150M to Accelerate Europe’s Residential Decarbonization

Swedish clean energy-tech startup Aira has raised €150 million (around $174 million) in equity funding to scale its heat pump production and expand across Europe. The round was backed by existing investors including Altor, Kallskär, Kinnevik, Lingotto, and Temasek, underscoring strong confidence in Aira’s vision to transform home heating.

Founded in 2022 by Vargas, the investment firm behind Northvolt, Aira aims to replace millions of fossil fuel boilers with high-efficiency, clean-energy heat pumps. Since its launch in June 2023, the company has achieved an annual sales run rate of €200 million, established 18 installation hubs, and opened four training academies for heat pump installers across Europe.

The new capital will fund the expansion of Aira’s manufacturing capacity at its factory in Wroclaw, Poland, and support deeper market penetration in Germany, Italy, and the UK. The company also plans to boost R&D at its Swedish headquarters, enhance customer service, and develop partnerships to accelerate adoption.

With 130 million fossil fuel boilers still in operation across Europe—responsible for roughly 10% of the continent’s CO₂ emissions—Aira’s mission is both urgent and market-driven. CEO Peter PremDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → described the investment as a step in moving from startup to scale-up, enabling the company to “double down on our mission to take Europe off gas.”

As demand for sustainable home heating solutions rises, Aira’s growth strategy positions it at the intersection of climate impact, consumer need, and technological innovation.
