XPANCEO Becomes a Unicorn with Smart Lens Breakthrough
XPANCEO, a Dubai-based deep tech startup, has reached unicorn status following a major funding round to advance its development of AI-powered smart contact lenses. The company aims to create a seamless, multifunctional wearable that integrates extended reality (XR), health monitoring, night vision, optical zoom, and more—all within a contact lens thinner than a human hair. Backed by Opportunity Venture (Asia), the funding will support scaling R&D, expanding the team, and accelerating the path to market.
Since its seed round in 2023, XPANCEO has developed 15 working prototypes, including lenses for AR vision, glaucoma monitoring through intraocular pressure sensing, glucose measurement via tear fluid, and real-time wireless charging. Other versions offer night vision, color correction, and 3D imaging. These innovations have earned the startup 24 international awards and contributed to over 100 scientific publications.
