Mapping the Reach of NATO’s DIANA Accelerators
The DIANA Accelerator Programme stands at the center of NATO’s efforts to harness deep tech and dual-use innovation across its 32 member states. Designed to help startups and scaleups navigate the unique demands of the defense and security sectors, the programme operates through a competitive Challenge Call model, selecting promising ventures to join its structured two-phase journey. In Phase 1, innovators are matched with one of 17 designated accelerator sites and receive hands-on support, business training, and exposure to NATO end-users. Those who progress to Phase 2 access tailored commercialization guidance, deeper engagement, and additional resources.
Crucially, the programme also offers direct financial support: €100,000 in non-dilutive funding is provided upfront to each selected company, with the possibility of up to €300,000 more in Phase 2 based on performance and potential. This funding helps cover product development, mentorship, testing, and participation in required activities across the network.
The reach of DIANA is not only ideological but also geographical. Headquartered in London, the programme’s operations span the Atlantic with a regional hub in Tallinn, Estonia and a North American base in Halifax, Canada.
