Astra Tech founder Abdallah Abu Sheikh exits as CEO following stake sale to G42

In November 2024, Abdallah Abu Sheikh, founder and former CEO of UAE-based technology company Astra Tech, has officially stepped down from his role following the sale of his stake in the company to Abu Dhabi’s G42. The decision, announced in a press release, marks the end of Abu Sheikh’s operational involvement with Astra Tech, which he led through a period of rapid expansion, including the acquisition of multiple platforms and the development of the all-in-one app Botim.

Astra Tech stated that the leadership transition is intended to make way for new management as the company enters its next phase of growth. Under Abu Sheikh’s tenure, the firm secured significant funding and positioned itself as a key digital player in the MENA region, focusing on services spanning fintech, e-commerce, and communication. The acquisition of his stake by G42, a strategic investor and backer of previous funding rounds, consolidates its influence over Astra Tech’s future direction.

Abu Sheikh described his departure as a natural step following the sale, noting that his entrepreneurial mission had been fulfilled. While the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, the transition reflects G42’s growing role in shaping regional tech ecosystems. Astra Tech’s next leadership team is expected to continue building on the foundation laid by Abu Sheikh, with a focus on scaling operations and deepening product integration.
