Calosol transforms facades into solar-powered heating systems to tackle the Dutch energy crisis

As the Netherlands races to improve the energy efficiency of 1.5 million poorly insulated homes, the spinout Calosol is offering an innovative solution: converting building facades into solar heat collectors.

Try Dealroom → —that absorbs invisible solar energy (especially near-infrared light) without altering the facade's appearance. This allows buildings to capture and convert solar heat even on dark-colored surfaces.

The system works in tandem with a heat pump and, optionally, a prefabricated "smart shed" , enabling efficient heating (and even cooling) without extensive home renovations. A pilot project in Eindhoven showed promising results, with homes reaching the top A++++ energy rating.

With national climate targets looming, Calosol is scaling up fast—planning to bring its smart facade system to hundreds of homes and commercial buildings over the next few years.
