What's the endgame? The blended-finance fund uses a layered capital structure, with a senior notes element built to meet the regulatory requirements of life insurers under Solvency UK. It provides senior loans to banks, microfinance providers, and other financial institutions, which in turn extend climate finance to small and medium-sized enterprises.

What they're saying: "We are pleased to participate in BOCAMF, an innovative investment solution that supports climate action across emerging and frontier markets," said Masaki Sano, general manager of the credit investment department at Daido Life.

Why it matters: The fund creates an investment-grade route into emerging market climate finance, a segment that has struggled to attract large-scale private capital. Structuring senior notes to fit insurers' regulatory needs is designed to draw in a new class of institutional backers.

The signal: "This first-of-its-kind fund demonstrates what is possible when development finance, private investment, and deep market expertise come together with a shared ambition," said Lori Kerr, chief executive of FinDev Canada. The model shows how development finance can be paired with private money to unlock larger flows toward climate solutions in markets that need them most.
