Revvity buys France's Human Cell Design to target metabolic disease drug discovery

What each side brings: HCD's flagship EndoC-βH5 human pancreatic beta cell model helps researchers study beta cell physiology across diabetes and obesity research. It also offers media, reagents, preclinical research, and its NatLine cell-line development platform. Revvity contributes detection, screening, automation, and analysis technologies.
What's the endgame? Revvity plans to fold HCD's beta cell models into its Life Sciences portfolio to support drug discovery, screening, and preclinical research, including GLP-1 and other metabolic disease therapies. HCD's cells pair with Revvity assays such as HTRF and AlphaLISA to measure readouts like cAMP and insulin.
"HCD brings differentiated human cell models that complement Revvity's broad portfolio of technologies supporting drug discovery and development," said Prahlad Singh, president and chief executive officer of Revvity.
Why now? Researchers increasingly want human-relevant models over animal or synthetic alternatives. Revvity also frames wet-lab validation as vital for confirming AI-generated insights, positioning human cell models as a foundation for AI-enhanced science.
Guillaume Costecalde, HCD's founder and president, said joining Revvity is expected to let it "bring our human cell models and NatLine technology to a broader global customer base."
The signal: The acquisition reflects continued consolidation in life sciences tooling, as instrument makers buy specialist model developers to offer integrated, end-to-end research platforms. With GLP-1 therapies driving intense interest in metabolic disease, human-relevant beta cell models give Revvity a differentiated foothold spanning early discovery through cell-therapy commercialisation.
