BNP Paribas AM Alts closes €1.2B junior infra debt fund

What's the deal? BNP Paribas Asset Management Alts (BNPP AM Alts)Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised €1.2 billion for its second European junior infrastructure debt fund at final close. The European Junior Infra Debt Fund II drew commitments from European and Asian investors, both existing and new backers.

What's the endgame? Classified as an Article 8 fund under SFDR regulations, the fund gives investors exposure to renewable energy, utilities, digital infrastructure, clean mobility, and social infrastructure. Environmental, social, and governance criteria are integrated into its investment approach.

Why now? Since launching in August 2024, the fund has completed close to 10 investments — mostly in energy transition, green mobility, and digital infrastructure. These include solar project platforms, pan-European rail, and data centres, with a focus on western Europe.

BNPP AM Alts said the raise reflects institutional demand for infrastructure debt strategies offering "a strong cash yield, attractive illiquidity premiums, compared to corporate bonds, and exposure to Europe's energy transition and digital infrastructure boom."

The firm added that the asset class is "benefitting from significant structural tailwinds including the regulatory and commercial transition towards electrification, digitisation and decarbonisation."

The signal: BNPP AM Alts' infrastructure debt platform now manages €15 billion and has deployed €24 billion across junior and senior strategies. The close underscores investor appetite for private credit tied to Europe's electrification and digitisation push.
