Salla buys Saudi payments firm Paylink to build merchant fintech

What's the deal? Saudi e-commerce platform Salla has acquired PaylinkDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Saudi fintech that provides electronic payment solutions for businesses and merchants. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Who's involved? Paylink was founded in 2017 by Ammar AlTwaijri and Abdulelah Alsayegh, and is licensed by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) to provide e-commerce payment services. Salla runs a commerce platform used by tens of thousands of merchants.

What's the endgame? Salla plans to fold Paylink's infrastructure into its commerce ecosystem, building payment acceptance and management tools across online and physical channels. It also wants to expand its point-of-sale offering, including SoftPOS, and support international payments, multiple currencies, and different payment methods.

Why now? The deal advances Salla's strategy to move beyond enabling sales and operations into financial services. "We believe that financial services are a natural extension of this vision," said Nawaf Hariri, founder and chief executive officer of Salla.

The signal: The acquisition reflects a wider push to merge commerce and payments in one system, giving Saudi brands the tools to sell and get paid at home and abroad.
