YouTube star Markiplier backs Strada, the startup trying to kill the cloud for video editors

What's the deal? StradaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Los Angeles software company that runs a peer-to-peer network for remote video editing, has secured an early-stage investment from Mark Fischbach, the content creator known as Markiplier. The company announced the deal on September 3, 2026.

What does Strada do? Its patented software lets video teams access, share, edit, and review large files stored on local drives from anywhere in the world. That, the company says, eliminates upload wait times and monthly cloud storage subscriptions.

Why now? Fischbach framed his backing around a familiar pain point: rising storage costs. "Another TB shouldn't cost me another $10/month," he said, adding that his local storage had grown but he could not use it properly with editors spread across the globe.

Founded by brothers Michael and Peter Cioni in 2023, Strada uses a distributed architecture built on peer-to-peer connectivity rather than centralised cloud infrastructure. It has been downloaded by more than 12,000 users since launch and serves both independent creators and media teams at Fortune 500 companies.

What's the endgame? Strada plans to use the investment to speed up its feature roll-out, including a review and approval experience, remote drive syncing, and enhanced mobile capabilities. It will also start marketing efforts with Fischbach.

Why bring in a creator? "As content creators ourselves, we know cloud-based solutions are not meeting the needs of remote creative teams: uploads are slow, workflows are complicated, and cloud storage is expensive," said co-founder Michael Cioni. Fischbach fits that customer profile directly, using Strada for his own team.

The company will show its software at the IBC trade show in Amsterdam from September 11 to 14.

The signal: Strada is betting that a slice of the creator economy would rather leverage hardware it already owns than pay ever-growing cloud bills. Recruiting a high-profile creator as both investor and marketing partner signals a go-to-market strategy aimed squarely at the video teams it wants to convert.
