EdTech firm WIRIS lands €1M loan from Avançsa to expand abroad

What does WIRIS do? Founded in 1999 as a spin-off of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, the Barcelona company builds software to create, edit, and grade maths and science content in digital settings. Its tools support STEM teaching for universities, publishers, and tech firms worldwide.

Why now? Chief executive officer Ramon Eixarch pointed to "profound changes in education and business productivity" as the backdrop for the raise. He described Avançsa as "a reliable, close, and at the same time flexible partner." (translated from Spanish)
The signal: Avançsa's backing signals continued public support for Catalonia's homegrown EdTech. As Avançsa director general Clàudia Canals put it, WIRIS "has become a global benchmark in the field of digital education" — a bet on regional tech leadership reaching further into overseas markets.
