Rayscape lands €1.5M EU grant to build oncology CT scanner AI

What's the endgame? Rayscape, whose technology is used in more than 20 countries, wants to move beyond AI models built for specific pathologies toward a single 3D model that reads an entire scan. TAP-CT extends the company's existing chest imaging to detect and track oncological lesions across the thorax, abdomen, and pelvis.
The grant funds the technology's path from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4 to TRL 9, meaning real-world clinical deployment. "Building our data engine infrastructure and advancing from TRL 4 to TRL 9 will enable us to train, validate, and deploy this technology in real-world clinical settings," said Bogdan Bercean, head of AI at Rayscape.
What did the company say? "At a time when oncology cases are becoming increasingly numerous and complex, we want to provide radiologists with a trusted tool that supports them in diagnosis and monitoring," said chief executive officer Ștefan Iarcă.
The signal: The award ranks among the larger grants in Romania, sitting in the top 10% of all-time grant rounds in the country by size. It reflects growing EU appetite to fund homegrown medical AI that keeps strategic health technology inside the bloc.
