What's the deal? Indonesia's PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI)Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → reported its micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) loan portfolio grew 8.6% year-on-year to Rp1,235.4 trillion at the end of the second quarter of 2026. The figures were disclosed at a press conference in Jakarta on August 31.

Why it matters: MSME lending remains BRI's core business and the dominant share of its total credit portfolio, even as the bank expands into other segments.

By the numbers: BRI Group's total assets reached Rp2,352 trillion, up 11.7% year-on-year. Total lending grew 16.2% to Rp1,646 trillion, and consolidated net profit rose 17.5% to Rp31.2 trillion.

What's the endgame? BRI is positioning itself not just as a lender but as an enabler of grassroots economic growth. It backs businesses through an end-to-end approach spanning villages, business communities, and individual entrepreneurs, said Aquarius Rudianto, director of network and retail funding.

The details: Through its Desa BRILiaN programme, BRI has supported more than 5,700 villages. Its Klasterku Hidupku scheme now reaches over 44,000 business clusters, while its LinkUMKM digital platform serves about 17.3 million MSME operators.

The bank also offers direct mentoring via Rumah BUMN, which had drawn roughly 596,000 MSME participants by June 2026.

The signal: BRI's results underscore a strategy of tying its growth to Indonesia's small-business economy. "In the end, that business growth is expected to help boost the income and welfare of MSME operators," Aquarius said (translated from Indonesian).
