August Energy, Energeia launch $100M efficiency platform for India
What's the deal? Singapore-based August EnergyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Indian energy efficiency firm EnergeiaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → have launched August Energeia, a $100 million platform to decarbonise commercial and industrial facilities across India with no upfront cost to customers.
How it works: Under an Energy-as-a-Service model, businesses can upgrade cooling, heating, steam, compressed air, and motor-driven systems, plus deploy solar, wind, and storage, without initial investment. The platform finances, builds, and manages the infrastructure, tying project economics to performance and savings delivered.
The venture combines August Energy's institutional capital and structuring with Energeia's on-ground execution and sales. It targets sectors including pharmaceuticals, automotive, food and beverage, chemicals, cement, steel, hospitality, healthcare, data centres, REITs, and commercial real estate.
Why now? High upfront capital remains a key barrier to modernising energy infrastructure. By shifting costs from capital to operational expenditure, the model lets companies meet sustainability goals without diverting capital from core operations.
Cooling gets particular focus, since it accounts for a significant share of energy use in India's hot climate. "By shifting the financial model from high-risk capex to predictable, performance-linked OPEX, we are removing the upfront friction and delivering outcomes rather than selling products," said Sookrit Malik, co-founder and CEO of Energeia.
What's the endgame? The partners want energy infrastructure consumed as a service, with specialist operators carrying the investment and performance risk. "Customers focus their capital on growth," said Vishal Jain, co-founder and head of India at August Energy.
What could go wrong? Success depends on scaling across sectors with distinct energy demands and risk profiles. Similar performance-linked platforms in Europe and North America have proven the model, but scalability is harder in markets with less mature regulatory frameworks.
The signal: The launch reflects growing investor interest in India's energy transition, as performance-based contracts spread from mature markets to emerging ones. August Energeia did not disclose project timelines or savings targets.
