Levanta lands $22M to grow creator commerce beyond Amazon

What's the deal? Levanta, a creator commerce platform, has raised a $22 million Series B round led by Volition CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, with participation from Long Run CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. The company matches retail sellers with a network of more than 90,000 vetted creators who promote products in exchange for samples and sales commissions.

How it works: Levanta pushes sellers to set affiliate rates of 15% to 20% and handles operational tasks like performance tracking, creator payments, and tax forms. It charges sellers a flat fee for its technology and takes a cut of the sales it helps generate.

What's the endgame? The startup wants to expand beyond its three main partners — Amazon, WalmartDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and Shopify — and into international markets.

"We're investing really heavily in going past Amazon, so deepening our relationship with Walmart, with Shopify, but then also going even beyond that and acquiring additional marketplaces that we're going to bring into the fold," said Ian Brodie, Levanta's chief executive officer and cofounder.

Why now? Affiliate marketing is expected to drive more than $240 billion in US e-commerce sales this year, up around 12% from the previous year, according to EMARKETER. Competition is intensifying, with LTKDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Impact.comDealroom has a profile for this one. By the numbers: Rival ShopMy raised $70 million in October at a $1.5 billion valuation. Levanta employs just over 100 people.

What could go wrong? The affiliate business has faced scrutiny, with companies like Capital One and PayPal's Honey accused of unfairly assigning sales commissions. Brodie called industry misattribution a "bummer" but said Levanta hasn't been directly affected.

The signal: Levanta bets its edge lies in educating retail sellers — a group with growing marketing budgets but little experience working with influencers. As affiliate spending swells, the race is on to lock in merchants before rivals do.
