Health Net grants $900K to Pear Suite to expand Medi-Cal community care

The money will help community-based organizations across the state build technology infrastructure, become community health worker and doula providers, and get reimbursed for Medi-Cal services.
What's the endgame? Pear Suite runs a platform that lets organizations assess social needs, coordinate referrals, document services, and streamline billing for Medi-Cal reimbursement. The grant funds technology and billing infrastructure so groups can enroll as Medi-Cal providers.
Why now? The grant builds on a partnership dating to 2023. Since then, Health Net has committed more than $1.9M to expand community health worker capacity and connect Medi-Cal members to health and social services.
For many Medi-Cal members, care extends beyond the doctor's office to housing support, transportation, and benefits navigation — work often done by community health workers and doulas. The grant aims to cut time spent on disconnected systems.
"This funding helps make whole-person care more practical for the community organizations doing the work every day," said Colby Takeda, chief executive officer of Pear Suite. "With stronger tools, training and implementation support, our partners can spend more time engaging members."
Health Net framed the investment as strengthening the broader safety net. "Trusted community partners play an essential role in helping people experience care in a way that feels more personal, connected and supportive," said Dorothy Seleski, Medi-Cal President at Health Net.
The signal: The grant lands in the middle of the pack by size, in the 33rd percentile for comparable deals. It reflects a growing push to fund the technology and billing tools that let community organizations join formal Medi-Cal reimbursement, moving social care into the mainstream health system.
