The Cleveland-based company distributes bearings, power transmission and fluid power products, and related industrial solutions to customers across 11 countries.
Who's the backer? Kelso is a North American middle-market private equity firm that has invested roughly $20 billion of equity across more than 140 transactions since 1980. The firm was founded on principles championed by Louis Kelso, inventor of the Employee Stock Ownership Plan, and is known for its focus on alignment and employee ownership.
What's the endgame? The investment gives BDI more access to capital and operational resources to accelerate both organic and acquisition-led growth. BDI's existing leadership team will retain meaningful ownership going forward.
Why the fit? Kelso brings a track record of partnering with distribution businesses to help them scale. "We are excited to support the BDI leadership team as they build on the Company's strong momentum and pursue an ambitious growth strategy," said Alec Hufnagel, investment partner at Kelso.
BDI operates more than 205 locations globally and is led by chief executive officer Carl James. "Partnering with Kelso provides the capital, strategic support, and shared vision to take BDI to the next level," James said.
