Founded in 1982 by William Meo, the company is now led by chief executive officer Dave Meo, son of the founder. It is headquartered in East Windsor, Connecticut, with additional operations in Indiana, and serves manufacturers in aerospace, automotive, medical devices, and defence.

Why now? Koma also runs a calibration business and a growing aftermarket parts operation — work that manufacturers in regulated industries must document to hold certifications. That gives the company recurring revenue somewhat insulated from swings in new-machine sales.

What's the endgame? Compass Group invests up to $50 million of equity in companies with enterprise values of $20 million to $200 million. It plans organic growth plus add-on acquisitions.

"Our goal is to partner with management to help build on this strong foundation with continued organic growth and opportunities for strategic add-ons," said Ryan Roepke, a director at Compass Group.

Dave Meo said the partnership will "provide resources and strategic support to invest further in our people, expand our capabilities, and grow our product offerings."

The signal: The US machine tools market was worth roughly $26.8 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow about 4.9% a year to reach $43.2 billion by 2035, according to market.usDealroom has a profile for this one.
