What's the endgame? Maybank expects tokenisation to make financing faster, more transparent, and easier to track for buyers and suppliers.
The MSME angle: Micro, small, and medium enterprises anchor supply chains but often struggle to access financing. "For MSMEs, which play a critical role in supply chains but often face persistent financing constraints, this innovation offers a practical way to unlock liquidity," said Arvind Santhanam Prasad, managing director of transaction banking and payments at Maybank's Global Banking division.
The signal: Both partners see the pilot as groundwork for cross-border trade financing across ASEAN. "We look forward to deepening our collaboration with Maybank to advance tokenised financing solutions in Malaysia and across the region," said Goh Yuen Khai, chief executive officer of V Systems.
