The money came from 52 investors, and the vehicle appears to be its first dedicated to independent sponsor deals.

Why now? The firm is raising on two fronts at once. Alongside the new fund, it has secured at least $92.4 million from 54 investors for RCP Fund XXI LP, its 21st flagship private equity fund of funds, which targets $250 million and carries a $500 million hard cap.

What's the endgame? RCP has long backed independent sponsor deals through its co-investment business, working with "experienced independent small buyout sponsors." That programme targets companies with enterprise values of $25 million to $500 million; the firm has not said whether the new dedicated fund will follow the same parameters.

Between the lines: Its flagship funds of funds back lower-middle-market buyout managers seeking between $250 million and $1 billion. RCP raised at least $278 million for predecessor Fund XX as of 26 May, and closed Fund XIX on some $314 million in June 2025.

The signal: A standalone independent sponsor fund formalises a strategy RCP once ran only through co-investments, a sign of growing institutional appetite for deals led by dealmakers without committed capital.
