Aum Ventures lands ₹225 crore first close for ₹750 crore deep-tech fund

What's the deal? Aum Ventures has announced the ₹225 crore first close of its ₹750 crore India Innovation Fund II. The early-stage firm plans to back 25 to 30 startups over the fund's lifecycle, writing initial cheques of $750,000 to $2 million at the pre-seed and seed stages.

Who's backing it? More than 65% of commitments came from international limited partners across the US, Middle East, and other global markets. That group includes family offices, entrepreneurs, and strategic investors.

What's the endgame? The fund targets spacetech, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, aerospace, defence tech, robotics, energy transition, and advanced manufacturing. It leans toward IP-led businesses building globally competitive technology from India.

Aum plans to reserve significant capital for follow-on investments through series A and series B. It will also support portfolio companies with access to global markets, strategic partnerships, talent, and industry expertise across India, the US, Israel, and the Middle East.

Why now? The second fund builds on Aum's inaugural 2023 vehicle, which recorded a gross MOIC of 2.23 times and a gross IRR of 53%. Its portfolio includes Skyroot Aerospace, Azimuth AI, Cosmoserve Space, Sanyark Space, Sully.ai, and Latentai.

Aum was an early institutional investor in Skyroot, which recently became India's first spacetech unicorn. The firm also logged an exit from Sharang Shakti, acquired by LAT Aerospace.

What they're saying: The first close "reflects the confidence our investors have placed in our team, our investment philosophy and, most importantly, the founders we back," said Chetan Mehta, founding partner at Aum Ventures.

Aum said it will also support portfolio companies beyond capital through access to global markets, strategic partnerships, talent, and industry expertise across India, the US, Israel, and the Middle East.
