The loan is the first deal for UntroD's new venture debt vehicle, the UntroD Real Tech Debt Fund.

What does Eco-Pork do? The startup, founded in November 2017, builds tools to bring data into pork production. Its products include Porker, a cloud-based farm management system, and PigDataStation, an AI camera that measures the number and weight of pigs.

Why now? The loan follows earlier equity backing UntroD made through its Real Tech Fund. It gives Eco-Pork a financing option distinct from raising equity as it moves from research and development into commercialisation.

What's the money for? Eco-Pork is pushing into overseas markets. It is expanding in the US under a deep-tech support programme from Japan's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), and working to rebuild Ukraine's pig industry through a United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) project.

What's the endgame? The debt fund targets Japanese deep-tech startups that venture capital equity struggles to serve. It launched in June 2026, runs for five years with a possible two-year extension, and counts partners including Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and BankingDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →.

"米国は、Eco-Porkが世界で成長するために、必ず成果を出さなければならない市場です," said chief executive officer Takashi Kambayashi, calling the US a market where the company must deliver results to grow globally.

The signal: UntroD, which has deployed over US$307.7M across its Real Tech funds since 2015, is pairing equity and debt for the same companies. That reflects a broader push to give research-heavy startups more ways to fund the costly jump from lab to market.
