Try Dealroom → (JIC) has committed ¥4 billion as a limited partner to two funds run by Globis Capital PartnersDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → (GCP): ¥2.4 billion to Globis Fund VIII, L.P. (GCP8) and ¥1.6 billion to Globis Fund VIII-S, L.P. (GCP8S). Both funds were established in 2026, with 10-year terms extendable by up to two years.

What's the endgame? GCP8 will target companies with the potential to become global unicorns, focusing on seed and early-stage investments. GCP8S will provide follow-on capital to promising portfolio companies on a growth trajectory.

Who's behind it? Tokyo-based GCP has run funds since its first vehicle in 1996 and is known for a hands-on support model. JIC, an investment company launched in September 2018 under Japan's Industrial Competitiveness Enhancement Act, supplies risk capital through LP investments in in-house and private funds.

Why now? JIC frames the commitment around three domestic gaps: strengthening local venture firms able to create unicorns, funding deep-tech startups that need long timelines and large sums, and drawing more institutional capital into Japanese risk assets.

The signal: JIC wants GCP to become a domestic role model — a Japanese firm with the overseas growth-support functions of a global VC. It sees the backing as a catalyst to expand deep-tech funding and, over time, attract foreign institutional investors to later Globis funds.
