Aster commits Rs 1,315 crore to expand Karnataka hospital network

Why now? The announcement followed a meeting between Executive Chairman Azad Moopen and Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. Moopen said the investment reflects the company's "long-term confidence" in the state.

What's the endgame? Aster operates 39 hospitals with more than 10,600 beds across its network, including four hospitals and 1,329 beds in Karnataka. The new spending is aimed at expanding capacity and improving access to advanced medical services.

The plan centres on Bengaluru. Aster is building a 550-bed hospital in Yeshwantpur and a 460-bed hospital in Sarjapur, plus a 350-bed expansion at its CMI Hospital.

Those projects target tertiary and quaternary care, adding substantial capacity to the existing network. Moopen said Aster will also work with the state government to support medical education and research.

The signal: The move tracks a broader push by healthcare providers to expand hospital infrastructure as demand for specialised care rises across India's major cities.
