Try Dealroom →. The deal marks DJH's 22nd acquisition in five years.
Who is Thorne Widgery? Founded more than 80 years ago, the firm operates from offices in Hereford, Ludlow, and Shrewsbury, serving owner-managed businesses. It has grown into the largest firm of accountants in Herefordshire and Shropshire.
What changes? Thorne Widgery joins DJH but keeps its local leadership, with Daniel Crowther continuing to lead alongside Lizzie Roberts and Sam King. Its clients gain access to services including estate planning, corporate finance, research and development tax relief, capital allowances, commercial funding, and IT support.
Why now? The acquisition strengthens DJH's presence in the Midlands and Welsh Borders. "Thorne Widgery's coverage across Hereford, Ludlow and Shrewsbury gives us the kind of connected Midlands and Welsh Borders presence we have been working towards," said Scott Heath, chief executive of DJH.
What's the endgame? DJH now employs nearly 900 people across 19 offices in the UK and Ireland. Heath said its model works best by combining "the reach and resources of a national group with real, locally led expertise."
One draw: Heath pointed to Thorne Widgery's software built for the academies sector, calling it "a real differentiator." DJH plans to explore extending that capability into other sectors.
The signal: The deal reflects continued consolidation in UK professional services, where private equity-backed groups are rolling up regional firms to build national scale while retaining local brands and teams.
