Emergent Software lands Winterbird growth equity to scale Microsoft practice

What's the deal? Emergent SoftwareDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Minneapolis-based Microsoft services partner, has secured a growth equity investment from Boston private equity firm Winterbird Partners. Founded in 2015, Emergent helps enterprise clients modernise mission-critical technology across the Microsoft platform. The company specialises in data modernisation, AI deployment, cloud transformation, and managed services.

What's the endgame? The capital will fund Emergent's next phase of growth — expanding the team, building service capabilities, and entering new geographies. Chief executive officer and co-founder Jamie Anderson said the aim is to build "a next-generation Microsoft frontier partner."

By the numbers: Emergent is on pace to deliver its third consecutive year of revenue growth exceeding 50%, according to Winterbird founder and managing partner Eric Ahlgren.

Why now? Ahlgren tied the deal to Microsoft's continued investment in Fabric, Copilot, Foundry, Azure, and AI, which he said is "creating a significant opportunity for specialized partners." Emergent serves high-stakes end markets including manufacturing, healthcare, finance, and regulated industries.

The signal: As enterprises rush to modernise data foundations and deploy AI, specialised Microsoft partners are becoming targets for private equity chasing durable, founder-led services businesses. Winterbird focuses on profitable B2B technology firms at an inflection point — a bet that the services layer around Microsoft's AI stack is where scalable value now sits.
