Norrsken Evolve closes €62M fund, opens Amsterdam base with €3M for Dutch startups

What's the deal? Norrsken Evolve has closed a €62 million pre-seed fund and will open a permanent Amsterdam office, its second base after Stockholm. The venture firm backs startups tackling climate, health, and resilience challenges.

Who's backing it? Institutional investors including the European Investment Fund, SaminvestDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and SmartCapDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → committed capital, alongside SkaalaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, the family office of Taavet Hinrikus and Sten Tamkivi, known for building TransferWise (now Wise) and their early work at Skype. The firm noted that no Dutch limited partners took part.

Why Amsterdam? Norrsken Evolve will operate from Norrsken House Amsterdam at the Van Gendt Hallen complex on Oostenburg when the hub opens on September 1, 2026. General partner Alex Bakir and investor Sjoerd Stevens will lead the Dutch team, its first based in the Netherlands.

What's the plan? The firm expects to route about 5% of the fund — roughly €3 million — to Dutch startups, supporting five to eight companies over the fund's life. Initial cheques will run up to €500,000, with reserves for the strongest performers.

Track record: Norrsken Evolve has already backed Dutch ventures, including Amsterdam biotech New Dawn Bio, which develops wood alternatives made without cutting trees. It also invested in Spiral Hydrogen, an Estonian-founded company building green hydrogen infrastructure at the Port of Rotterdam, and expects to close another Dutch deal before the end of 2026.

The bigger picture: The Amsterdam launch sits within the wider Norrsken ecosystem, which manages close to $1 billion across five funds and runs Norrsken Houses in Stockholm, Barcelona, Brussels, Kigali, and now Amsterdam.

The signal: Norrsken Evolve is planting a flag in the Netherlands to write early cheques into climate and health founders — a bet that a physical hub and local team can win deal flow in a market where it raised no local capital.
