New fund

Spiral, Seino launch ¥10B logistics fund, pushing group AUM to ¥103B

What's the deal? Spiral Innovation Partners (SIP) has teamed up with Seino HoldingsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → to form SEINO Alliance Fund (SAF), a ¥10 billion investment fund. SIP, a subsidiary of Tokyo-based independent VC Spiral CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, is running the fund through its Spiral Innovation Partners LLP arm, with logistics group Seino Holdings as the sole limited partner.

What's the endgame? SAF targets startups in logistics and the wider value chain serving shipper companies, writing cheques from ¥500 million per deal. It will invest at growth stage and take positions ranging from minority to majority stakes, across both primary and secondary deals.

Why now? The fund builds on a decade of collaboration between the two firms that began in 2016. It follows their 2019 Logistics Innovation Fund and 2023 Value Chain Innovation Fund, and is SIP's ninth fund overall.

The launch lifts Spiral Capital group's cumulative assets under management to ¥103 billion.

What could go wrong? With Seino as its only LP, the fund's direction is closely tied to a single corporate backer. Its remit — spanning early growth to majority buyouts, primary and secondary — is broad, which could stretch focus across very different deal types.

The signal: Corporate-backed venture arms remain a fixture in Japan's logistics sector, where large incumbents look to startups for new growth. SAF signals a shift toward more flexible, later-stage bets, aiming, in the firms' words, to create "new value" across the value chain.
