Tetragon raises $2.6M in ASX debut to fund Philippines gas hunt

What's the deal? Tetragon Energy (ASX: TET) began trading on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) on July 9, 2026, after raising $2.6 million in its initial public offering. The listing values the oil and gas explorer at 5.2 million AUD.

What's the endgame? Tetragon owns two projects in the Philippines: the offshore Sulu Sea Project, made up of permits SC-80 and SC-81, and the onshore Cagayan Basin Project on the island of Luzon. IPO proceeds will fund an accelerated exploration program.

Why now? The company moved immediately to start work following the listing. Its first priority is to merge and reprocess four 3D seismic surveys covering over 4,000sqkm of the two offshore permits — data that would have cost roughly $20 million to acquire between 2005 and 2013.

Tetragon holds a 37.5% interest in the Sulu Sea permits and acts as operator. The permits host two gas discoveries with gross mid-case 2C contingent resources of 470 billion cubic feet of gas and 5 million barrels of condensate.

The reprocessing is meant to sharpen the technical picture and support talks with potential farm-in partners. Tetragon believes the acreage sits within the same plays as large discoveries made offshore Borneo.

Notable shareholders: Tetragon was spun out of ASX-listed Triangle EnergyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → (ASX: TEG), with Triangle shareholders receiving one Tetragon share for every 113 Triangle shares held.

The onshore Cagayan permit, in which Tetragon holds a 100% interest, contains the Nassiping-2 gas discovery with gross 2C contingent resources of 13 billion cubic feet. The company sees potential for a domestic gas operation to meet local energy demand.

What could go wrong? The resources remain contingent, and much depends on securing farm-in partners to advance exploration. The seismic reprocessing is an early step, not a guarantee of commercial development.

The signal: Tetragon's debut marks a small-cap bet on the Philippines as an emerging gas market, with the offering giving it the capital to test whether its acreage can rival the large finds already made around Borneo.
