AI's model wars heat up: xAI's Grok 4.5 and OpenAI's GPT-5.6 trio land this week

What's the deal? A wave of new frontier AI models arrives this week. xAI will make Grok 4.5 publicly available on July 9, 2026, following a customer beta. On the same day, OpenAI opens its GPT-5.6 family globally after an initial restricted preview.
