Capsol Technologies refinances debt with new DNB credit facility

What's the deal? Capsol Technologies ASA, a Norwegian carbon capture technology provider listed on Euronext Oslo Børs, has struck a new credit agreement with DNB Bank ASA to refinance its existing bank facilities. The deal combines a revolving credit facility with the continuation of Capsol's existing InvestEU-backed term loan.

The revolving facility has a reduced commitment profile, with available commitments gradually declining from 2027. The InvestEU-backed term loan continues under its existing terms.

The new structure includes simplified financial covenants that lower near-term liquidity requirements compared to Capsol's previous financing arrangement. It also extends the company's debt maturity profile.

Why now? Capsol is positioning itself for growth in the carbon capture market, targeting sectors like cement, biomass, energy-from-waste, and gas turbines. The refinancing gives it more flexibility to manage its balance sheet as it pursues commercial opportunities.

"This refinancing provides Capsol with a solid financial platform and improved flexibility as we continue to develop our business and pursue commercial opportunities," said Bjørn Kristian Røed, chief financial officer of Capsol Technologies.

What could go wrong? The gradually shrinking revolving facility means Capsol's available credit will tighten from 2027 onward. If commercial traction takes longer than expected, the company could face constraints just as it needs capital most. Carbon capture remains a sector where large-scale deployment timelines are uncertain and policy-dependent.

The signal: The deal reflects a broader trend of climate-tech companies restructuring their finances to extend runways while they wait for commercial revenues to scale. The InvestEU backing underscores the role of public guarantee instruments in supporting European cleantech firms that private lenders might otherwise view as too risky. As carbon capture inches closer to commercial viability, expect more refinancing moves like this across the sector.
