Scapia raises $63M to build AI-powered travel fintech for India's Gen Z

What's the deal? Indian travel fintech startup Scapia has raised $63 million in a Series C round led by General Catalyst, with existing backers Peak XV Partners and Z47 also participating. The all-primary round — meaning no secondary share sales — will fund customer acquisition, AI-native product development, and hiring across engineering, data science, and design.

Scapia operates at the intersection of fintech and travel, offering a flight-booking marketplace and co-branded credit cards through Federal Bank and Bank of BarodaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. The company declined to share its valuation.

Why now? India's young consumers are spending big on travel. A report by Redseer Strategy Consultants and Fireside VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → found that one in three Indian consumers spend over 20% of their income on travel. Gen Z spending on travel alone is projected to hit $102 billion by 2030, up from $32 billion in FY24.

"We're still very young and very small in terms of the largeness of India," said founder and chief executive Anil Goteti. "There's a large opportunity to scale the business into a larger customer base."

What could go wrong? Scapia's AI ambitions are still early-stage. Goteti acknowledged that technology isn't the bottleneck — user experience is. "A typical chat interface will not work," he said, arguing that travel requires audio-visual interfaces where users can see destinations and experiences before booking. Getting that right is a design challenge as much as a technical one.

The company also faces execution risk as it adds new banking partners. Discussions with additional banks are expected to close before Q3 this fiscal year, but partnerships with regulated institutions can be slow and complex.

The signal: General Catalyst leading this round alongside Peak XV Partners and Z47 — two of India's most prominent homegrown funds — underscores growing global investor conviction in India's consumer fintech opportunity beyond payments and lending. With Gen Z travel spending projected to more than triple to $102 billion by 2030, Scapia is positioning itself at a lucrative intersection, though its all-primary raise suggests priority is firmly on growth over early liquidity for existing backers.
