Portuguese food-tech Corial Foods adds two new investors

What's the deal? Corial Foods, a Portuguese startup specialising in sustainable food products, has welcomed two new investors to its shareholder structure. Futurum Tech, a closed-end venture capital fund, and German firm Mikash Holding GmbH joined the company following the conversion of previously subscribed investment instruments.

The deal was advised by Portuguese law firm SRS Legal. Corial Foods, based in Esposende, was founded in 2023 and focuses on innovative, sustainable food solutions.

Why now? The investment fits into Corial Foods' growth and consolidation strategy as it looks to strengthen its development capacity in a sector increasingly oriented towards sustainable food innovation. The entry of both a domestic VC fund and an international holding company signals broadening investor appetite for the space.

The signal: Portugal's food-tech ecosystem remains nascent, and Corial Foods' ability to attract both a domestic VC fund and a German holding company just two years after founding suggests early international confidence in the country's sustainable food innovation pipeline. The involvement of Futurum Tech, a closed-end venture capital fund, also points to growing appetite among Portuguese institutional investors to back local deep-tech food ventures at an early stage.
