Citibank Korea and Korea Eximbank fund KoMiCo'US$73.3M US chip expansion

What's the deal? Citibank Korea and the Export-Import Bank of Korea are providing $100M in syndicated financing to KoMiCo, a Korean semiconductor equipment parts supplier, to fuel its expansion across the US.

The financing agreement was signed Monday at KoMiCo's headquarters in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province. The funds will go toward expanding and operating facilities in Austin, Hillsboro, Oregon, and Phoenix — key hubs for the company's US operations.

KoMiCo specialises in precision cleaning and specialty coating for semiconductor equipment parts and is a supplier to major chipmakers. It was recently named an outstanding partner by Samsung Electronics' Device Solutions division for 2026, earning the top award in the quality innovation category.

Why now? As semiconductor manufacturing processes grow more advanced, demand for specialised equipment maintenance and coating services is rising. KoMiCo's US footprint puts it close to major fab clusters where chipmakers are investing heavily in new capacity.

The financing also helps KoMiCo improve its debt structure and strengthen financial stability as it scales overseas.

What could go wrong? Geopolitical tensions around semiconductor supply chains remain a wildcard. Korean suppliers expanding into the US must navigate trade policy shifts, potential tariffs, and regulatory scrutiny — all of which could affect cost structures and timelines.

The signal: This deal reflects a broader trend of Korean semiconductor suppliers following their customers abroad, backed by coordinated support from policy banks and private lenders. Citibank Korea noted it has already supported KoMiCo's expansion into Taiwan, Singapore, and the Czech Republic through Citigroup's global network.

"This financing is a meaningful example of cooperation between policy and private finance in supporting Korean companies' overseas expansion," said Hwang Jae-won, head of commercial banking at Citibank Korea. The bank said it plans to deepen its partnership with KoMiCo through tailored cash management and corporate banking services.

As chipmakers build out fabs in the US, the ecosystem of specialised suppliers around them is growing in lockstep — and the money is following.
