UK B2B publisher Bdaily lands six-figure backing for national expansion

What's the deal? Bdaily, a digital business-to-business news publisher based in northeast England, has secured a six-figure investment from Maven Capital Partners through the Finance Durham Fund, established by Durham County Council and overseen by Business Durham. The funding will fuel a UK-wide growth strategy, expand the workforce, and support a move to new offices at Aykley Heads as part of the Durham Innovation District.

Founded in the northeast nearly 20 years ago, Bdaily was acquired by multi-platform media group NET in 2024. It publishes multi-sector news, features, and thought leadership to a national audience that includes more than 55,000 email subscribers.

Why now? Regional B2B media coverage across the UK has been in steady decline, creating a gap for businesses trying to reach local markets. "The level of regional business-to-business news, information and opinion has been in decline and this has made it harder for companies and organisations to get messages out to chosen markets," said John Duns, NET business development director.

The investment also bolsters Bdaily's role within NET's broader campaign agenda, which includes the North East-focused VISION 31 investment summit and a recent white paper on devolution opportunities in the region.

What could go wrong? Scaling a regional publisher nationally is notoriously difficult. Local business journalism relies on deep community ties and editorial credibility — qualities that don't always transplant easily across new markets. Bdaily will also face competition from established national outlets and an advertising environment that continues to shift toward big tech platforms.

The signal: The deal reflects renewed investor interest in niche digital media that serves underserved audiences. As legacy regional newspapers shrink, specialist B2B publishers see an opening — particularly those that combine editorial content with client self-publishing tools and events.

Rebecca Minchella, investment manager at Maven Capital Partners, said the opportunity is "huge," noting that Bdaily's "high-quality business-to-business journalism delivered by its rapidly expanding digital presence" gives it a clear differentiator. Whether that edge holds at national scale is the real test.
