Ocean Security raises $20M Series A to fight AI-driven phishing

Why now? Phishing attacks have grown far more sophisticated as attackers adopt generative AI to craft convincing, personalised messages at scale. Traditional defences that rely on pattern matching and known threat signatures struggle against these new tactics.
Ocean says its platform uses AI agents that analyse the intent behind messages rather than just scanning for familiar patterns — an approach designed to catch novel attacks that legacy tools miss.
What could go wrong? Email security is a crowded market. Incumbents like Proofpoint, Mimecast, and Microsoft's built-in protections already serve large enterprises, and several AI-native startups are chasing the same opportunity. Ocean will need to prove its agent-based approach delivers meaningfully better detection rates without drowning users in false positives.
