Daimler Truck buys eStar Truck & Van to enter UK retail market
What's the deal? Daimler Truck has acquired eStar Truck & Van Ltd, marking its first own-retail presence in the UK. The deal, effective May 1, 2026, brings six locations across Greater Manchester and Liverpool under Daimler Truck's direct control.
The sites — Knowsley Truck, Knowsley Van, Stoke-on-Trent, Deeside, Trafford Park, and Skelmersdale — will offer a full service portfolio including sales of new and used trucks and vans, plus servicing for Mercedes-Benz and FUSO trucks, Mercedes-Benz and Setra buses.
Why now? Daimler Truck has been steadily expanding its own-retail footprint across Europe. Moving into the UK — one of the continent's largest commercial vehicle markets — is a logical next step as the company seeks more direct control over customer relationships and aftermarket revenue.
What could go wrong? Running retail operations directly is capital-intensive and operationally complex. Daimler Truck will need to retain eStar's existing customer base and workforce while integrating the business into its European retail structure. The UK's post-Brexit regulatory environment adds another layer of complexity for a German parent company.
The signal: Major truck manufacturers are increasingly bringing retail and service operations in-house rather than relying solely on independent dealers. Direct ownership gives OEMs tighter control over pricing, customer data, and the growing aftermarket services business — which often carries higher margins than vehicle sales alone. Daimler Truck's UK move mirrors a broader industry trend toward vertical integration in commercial vehicles.
