Swiss geothermal drilling firm Bohrfix changes hands to fuel growth
What's the deal? Dundee AG, an investment firm based in Alpnach, Switzerland, has acquired Bohrfix Erdsonden AG, one of the country's largest independent geothermal borehole drilling companies. Bohrfix drills roughly 240,000 metres and completes around 1,150 boreholes per year.
Hans Rosenberger, chair of Dundee AG, takes over as board president of Bohrfix. Day-to-day operations remain with Sascha Jordi, a drilling veteran since 1998 who joined Bohrfix as project manager in June 2025. Vinzenz Schönenberger stays on as commercial director. All existing staff are being retained.
Why now? Former owner Alban Berisha decided to step back and focus entirely on his own investment and real-estate portfolio. Dundee saw an opening to acquire a company it describes as having "excellent market positioning, an experienced team, and significant growth potential in geothermal and renewable energy."
The new owner plans to invest in growth, technology, and personnel to extend Bohrfix's leading position in the Swiss market.
What could go wrong? Ownership transitions in specialised, operationally intensive businesses always carry execution risk. Retaining institutional knowledge and client relationships during the handover will be critical — though the decision to keep the existing management team and workforce intact should help.
The signal: Geothermal energy is gaining momentum across Europe as countries push to decarbonise heating. Switzerland, where heat pumps paired with geothermal boreholes are already common, is a natural growth market. That an investment firm is buying into drilling infrastructure — not a software play or a flashy deep-tech startup — underscores that established, cash-generating clean-energy businesses are attracting private capital too.
