Express Solicitors buys motorcycle injury brand Sorrymate
What's the deal? Manchester-based Express Solicitors has acquired Sorrymate, a personal injury brand focused on motorcyclists, along with its parent firm Smooth Law's caseload. The deal brings Sorrymate's biker-community following under Express Solicitors' umbrella while keeping the brand, website, and community presence intact.
Sorrymate's three directors — Paul McKittrick, Mark Flynn, and Louise Burns-Lunt — will join the Express group and continue representing the brand at events. All ongoing cases will transition to Express.
Why now? This is Express Solicitors' second acquisition of 2026, following its purchase of Aegis Legal earlier this year. The firm has signalled that acquisition-led growth is its core strategy, backed by investment from Ufenau Capital Partners secured late last year.
"Our strategy is very firmly focused on acquisition-based expansion," said James Maxey, chief executive officer at Express Solicitors.
What could go wrong? Sorrymate's appeal rests on its identity as a niche brand "run by bikers for bikers." Folding it into a large corporate group risks diluting that grassroots credibility — even if the brand name stays. Retaining community trust while scaling operations is a common tension in roll-up strategies.
The signal: The UK personal injury market continues to consolidate. Firms with private equity backing are snapping up specialist brands to broaden their reach without building from scratch. Express Solicitors' playbook — acquire niche operators, keep the brand, plug in bigger infrastructure — mirrors a pattern seen across legal services as the sector professionalises and scales.
