Overmatch raises $250M Fund II to back US deep tech and defence startups

What's the deal? Overmatch Ventures, an Austin-based early-stage VC firm focused on deep tech, defence, and space, has raised an oversubscribed $250M Fund II — more than three times its $70M debut.

The raise brings total assets under management to over $500M. General partners Evan Loomis, Jordan Blashek, and Morgan Hitzig — all military veterans or operators — will deploy the capital across roughly 25 Seed and Series A investments.

Why now? Fund I's early performance made the case. Its debut portfolio includes xAI, Saronic, CHAOS Industries, Impulse Space, and Armada AI — names now central to the US defence tech conversation. Overmatch also deployed over $140M in co-investment alongside its $70M fund, giving limited partners direct deal exposure and portfolio companies a larger capital base.

Fund II arrives as government procurement of commercial deep tech accelerates, with defence budgets flowing increasingly toward startups over legacy contractors. To speed that pipeline, Overmatch connects founders directly with government buyers through initiatives like Endless Frontiers and the Demand Signal Forum.

What could go wrong? Government contracts are slow to close, and procurement cycles can stall even strong startups. A $250M fund with only ~25 core bets leaves little room for error, and shifts in defence spending priorities could dent demand across the portfolio.
