Singtel Innov8 launches $250M AI fund to back growth-stage startups globally

What's the deal? Singtel Innov8Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, the corporate venture capital arm of Singapore's Singtel GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, has launched a $250M AI Growth Fund to back growth-stage AI startups globally. The new vehicle sits alongside Innov8's existing $350M evergreen fund, bringing its total capital under management to around $600M.

Target areas include customer engagement, cybersecurity, IT automation, network operations, and enterprise AI platforms.

Why now? Innov8's existing fund was built for an earlier investment playbook — earlier-stage, broader tech. The AI shift demands a dedicated vehicle focused on companies that are already scaling, not just experimenting.

The fund also reflects Singtel's own operational urgency: portfolio companies will get direct access to Singtel business units — including Optus, Digital InfraCo, and NCS — to test and deploy AI in live environments.

Innov8 has brokered over 350 such deals between startups and the wider Singtel ecosystem, which spans more than 780 million mobile subscribers across 21 countries.

What could go wrong? Corporate venture funds with a dual mandate — financial returns and strategic value for the parent — have a notoriously difficult balance to strike. If Singtel prioritises its own AI adoption needs, it risks backing companies that fit its internal roadmap rather than the best investments available.

There is also the question of whether startups want a telco as a strategic partner: access to Singtel's customer base is valuable, but so is the freedom to work with Singtel's competitors.

The signal: This is less about financial returns — though Innov8 reports a 26% internal rate of return since its 2021 strategic reset — and more about using startup capital as a lever to accelerate the group's own AI transformation. The bet is that backing the right growth-stage AI companies and plugging them into a massive operational network creates more value than either side could generate alone.

As AI moves from pilot to infrastructure across enterprise, telcos with global distribution and a captive customer base are positioning themselves as deployment platforms — not just connectivity pipes.
