Unicorn India Ventures closes $111M deeptech fund focused on chips, space, and AI
What’s the deal? Unicorn India Ventures has closed its third fund at $133 million (Rs 1,200 crore), beating its initial target of $111 million (Rs 1,000 crore). The deeptech-focused venture firm plans to back startups in semiconductors, spacetech, and AI infrastructure.

The fund plans to make around 20 investments, with typical cheques of $1.1-1.7 million (Rs 10–15 crore).
Why now? India’s push to build domestic capability in chips, space, and advanced computing is gathering pace. Public capital and state-backed institutions are increasingly backing specialised venture funds to support that ambition.
Unicorn India says early traction helped it exceed its target. Seven to eight portfolio companies have already raised follow-on rounds, signalling growing investor appetite for capital-intensive deeptech plays.
What could go wrong? Deeptech investing comes with long development cycles and high technical risk. Returns may take years to materialise, testing investor patience if market conditions tighten.
The fund’s focus areas are also policy-sensitive. Changes to government incentives or slower infrastructure buildout could affect portfolio growth.
The signal: The close points to rising confidence in India’s deeptech ecosystem, beyond consumer internet and SaaS. Capital is shifting toward sectors tied to national infrastructure and strategic autonomy.
It also shows how domestic capital is stepping up. With public institutions and states backing funds, India’s venture market is becoming a more active player in building hard-tech companies from the ground up.
