Fauna’s $50K Sprout humanoid aims to bring developer-ready robots into real human spaces
What's the deal? Fauna Robotics has publicly launched Sprout , a new humanoid robot platform designed to operate safely around people and enable developers, researchers, and creators to build real-world robotics applications. Sprout is about 1.07 m tall, lightweight (22.7 kg), and ships with built-in walking, perception, navigation, autonomy, expressive gestures and a full software development kit. It’s available now as the Creator Edition and is priced around $50,000. Early users include Disney, Boston Dynamics, UC San Diego and NYU.
Why now? Years of advances in AI, motors, sensors and batteries have narrowed the gap between research prototypes and practical humanoids, pushing robotics beyond industrial and lab settings. There’s also the risk that developers build niche demos rather than scalable applications that justify investment.
